Sunday safari

The grey heron flies over the garden most days.     He even visits the pond in hope of finding something to eat.
I am so lucky to live near a river and be so close to these beautiful birds.
As he flew over my head, I was fortunate to get an image.   It is not perfect by any means, but it does show his lovely wing structure.    I also love the pattern of his breast feathers........

Happy Sunday safari............

Oh I love herons! What a fantastic picture of his body and wing. One often visits our local pond, but I've never managed to get a picture. Thanks for sharing yours.

I bet you find him close to your house snooping around for goldfish he thinks you might have in your pond. The bugger will eat your frogs too. What a fun problem to have. tee hee.... Aren't they handsome birds?. I think they look like little old men.

Hi Dan,

I love herons too. They are the most pre-historic looking creatures.
I have struggled to get images of him with my camera. Yesterday he was for some reason fairly accomodating.

Lisa,

Too funny, little old men.

We have fish in the pond. Odd thing is I did not put them there.
Ducks have probably brought the eggs in on their feet, at some point.
The heron has taken several fish.....two remain.
One is Poppi't special fish, called Rosy. Poppi would be devasted if the Heron ate her.

Wonderful shots of the heron, it must be great living so close to river and wildlife.

Hi eileeninmd

I love living near the river. You never know what will arrive in the garden.
I was blessed to see a kingfisher in the pampus grass one year. Sadly I have not seen him lately......

What a gorgeous bird! Seeing your comment to Lisa, I do hope, though, he doesn't find your pond.

I think the hummingbirds have finally left for the season. They were still visiting here as late as early last week, but they have a long way to go for their winter home, so I hope they allowed enough time for their journey.

What beautiful shots, Cheryl. To have taken such an unusual shot of his underside! Wow!

Herons are so majestic looking when they fly.
Happy Sunday safari.

Herons are so majestic! I live next to a creek but it's very wooded, so I was surprised to find a great blue heron on my shed roof one day!! There's a pond in the nearby park; I've never seen another heron but I do see egrets quite frequently.

Dear Cheryl - so sorry it's been a while - what gorgeous shots and love the one of the ivy flowers on your header too. It's been such a busy year with work and not many spare minutes to keep up my blog but do hope to be back more regularly over the winter... do hope all's going well with you - take care Miranda x
ps - much enjoyed Black Peonie poppies in my garden this year thanks to you... http://jardinmiranda.blogspot.com/2011/07/july-in-our-brittany-garden.html

Hi Cheryl, sorry not to have 'visited' much recently but having broadband problems and cannot usually see your pictures.

Love the images of the heron, hopefully when we get our big pond up and running next year we will have one visiting, we're under a direct flightpath between the river and some ponds.

Hi!

I hope you're having an awesome week! I thought you might like this infographic I helped build about the health, mental, and financial benefits of gardening (http://blog.lochnesswatergardens.com/how-gardening-benefit/).

If you think your readers would like it too, please feel free to use it on My Wildlife Sanctuary blog. There's code at the bottom of our post that makes it super easy to post on your blog. It's all free (of course). If you have any questions about posting it, let me know and I'll try to help.

I don't know where else to contact you so I just posted a comment here. :)

Thanks!
