Poppy seeds and more.......

"What are you doing Nanna?"
"Taking some photographs for my blog."
"Pretty flowers?"
"Not today Poppi seedheads and berries."

We walked around the garden.........the valerian have gone to seed.......I wonder where they will end up. I always hope that some will reseed along the lanes nearby. I will get plenty in the garden that's for sure.
"Quick Nanna, look a clown.".......and yes it does look like a clown.........
"What is that?"
"That is a Poppy seedhead"
"We have got the same name Nanna"
Country folk say the meaning of Poppy is 'daughter of the field'.....I like that.

The elder will have plenty of berries this year for the birds to feast on......
The berries on elder black lace are particularly attractive.

"Poppi come here. When this seedhead is ripe, you can make music and scatter the seeds around the garden ."
"That sounds like fun. I still prefer flowers though."
"Well why don't you run around and find something that you like."

"I like this Nanna."
The seedheads of Nigella or love-in-a-mist are very attractive....I was pleased that she discovered this.
"Nanna, quick I've found a tomato."
I tried to explain it was a rose hip and when they are ripe in the autumn birds would eat them.
"I had a nice time, but I still like flowers best........pink roses most of all. Nanna look at Nella, she looks lonely.....shall we go and play."
"Yes Poppi let's.......race you to that tree."
Sunny today and sharing time.......I love this space and all that it gives but most of all I love those that share it with me.........

Your posts always tug at my heart. I love sharing your time with Poppi. Her grandmother's girl! It's delightful to see the world through a child's eyes. If we just take the time to listen we could learn so much.

Your hard work is paying off and your wildlife will thank you when winter comes. They will come from far and wide to eat at your buffet!

What a fun time you must have had with Poppi today! I have spent the day with my youngest grandchild, but he's too young to enjoy gardening yet and he's a little under the weather.

Enjoyed the different perspective of the garden--I will look at seed heads in a different way, now.
Thanks for also sharing a picture of Nella! She looks like she enjoys the garden as well.

Dear Beckie.....I am by nature emotional and romantic....I suspose that is why I write as I do....I see relections of myself in Poppi....time will tell.

The garden is looking good for the birds for winter....I am pleased with the things I have done......and I love your words 'eat at your buffet' made me smile

Me again. Did I forget to leave a second comment yesterday? I posted some additional photos just for you showing the Japanese beetles and what they do to plants. It's not a pretty sight.

Hi Rose....hope your little grandson is better soon.....it is good to share with them.

I love seedheads, I think they add winter interest, especially covered in frost or on a misty autumn morning.

Nella is a gentle girl.....she loves the children......she is a rescue dog. Thrown out on the streets, poor thing. She is well loved here and is happy.

Isn't it fun to see the garden through the eyes that can see the clowns.

What a nice post -- sharing such a curious perspective. We can just see the a future friend of nature gaining tools to blossom. I especially like the part about the meaning of "Poppy".

Oh these are just beautiful Cheryl, And the fairest of them all? Well it has to be Poppi xx I love it that she is so tuned into the beauty around her cos it will stay with her all her life - it's quite a precious and rare thing I think. You can see it in her face. And you are such kindred sprits.

Kyla is showing signs of being an outdoor girl - she loves going for walks up the lane with her grandad and comes back full of what she has seen. They go for their walk most days cos she likes to feed the old donkey that lives up there on a small holding where there are ducks, geese, chickens etc. Richard has started to teach her where her food comes from and she already knows that milk comes from the cows she sees inthe fields and eggs from chickens. The nursery she goes to have their own free range chickens and you should see their little faces when they go to collect the eggs and they come back in holding them ever so gently.

Do you think we are in the minority now cos we want our children to appreciate and care for the world and what it gives us? I do wonder sometimes.

Hope you are all well xxx

Hi Dawny....It gladdens my heart to hear about little Kyla....how wonderful for her, she will grow into a beautiful woman who cares.

When I started this blod I was disillusioned with the way society was going. BUT I have met some wonderful people....people like you and me who care about the environment and are bring their family up to have respect for all that is around us......

I personally believe that things will change.....there are big changes ahead....things are going to get better I am sure....
