Busy Day......

Poppi and I have had a really busy day...........
we have both been working very hard.......

We have been edging the pathway through the woodland walk, with lengths of beautiful silver birch.........

We have also made several log piles.......for the little creatures to hide in........

or perhaps the odd fairy........
or two.........The trees have done well........conifers......

pines, beech and holly have put on good and healthy growth........
I underplanted with woodland species.........ferns......
pulmonaria, and hellebores.....the one above is already showing bud formation.........
Bamboo also adds to the scene......I planted them in large oak tubs, and they have grown to dizzy heights. They sound beautiful when the wind gently touches them. Although they are not native plants, they add an elegance and charm to this woodland area. I intend to go to the garden centre tomorrow and add some more plants to the woodland floor. Its been a good day....thank you Poppi for all your help.........

What a super little helper you have there Cheryl. Did she have rosy cheeks when she'd finished? Oh I love them like that - and they smell of fresh air as well. We had 'help' at the weekend sweeping up all the leaves. We were one end of the piles putting them in sacks and Kyla was at the other end kicking them away again!!! She had fun, even if we didnt!!! She is like Poppi and just loves being outside - a real outdoor girl. Hope you are all well xxx

amazing little helper you have! Your garden is such a beautiful habitat. The piles of wood will be so beneficial for so many small critters during the winter. Thank you for being a "wildlife ambassador" as we like to call them at the butterfly farm!

Silver birch logs are so lovely! Your woodland path is going to look so inviting with these marking the way, Cheryl. Aren't little helpers the best?
Have you planted the trees yet that you were awarded for your Wildlife Garden? Or are they arriving later?

That sweet little Poppi. Good to see she get to visit her Grandmother today and work to make it nice for the fairies. I bet you both sleep well tonight.

I love the pictures of the tree leaves. The conifers give such lovely texture.

What great help you had today. She will be a womderful gardener just like her grandmother. The woodplies around the garden are a wonderful idea for the little critters to have a warm home for the winter. Even though the bamboo isn't native, it adds to the woodland effect and shpuld also provide some shelter this winter.

Great day in the garden!

Sweet little Poppi - how nice for both of you to enjoy a day in the garden. I am sure some little faeries will soon come and visit.

What do you do with the bamboo in the winter? Do you have to bring it in? It sounds like it makes a very nice addition to your woodland. Oh and I also love the silver birch logs lining the pathway.

Hi Dawny.....they do make gardening such fun don't they......Riley helped clear some of the leaves on the grass. We have a leaf pile around the back of the garage........he was sure a hedgehog was sleeping beneath them.....he could be right.....

Hi Mimi.....for me personally, my garden would be dead without the insects and other creatures that live with me here. I love to see what arrives and how long it stays.....it makes it all worthwhile.......

Hi Rose......I have a woodman friend who is regenerating the woodland in his area. He gave me the sliver birch. They looked so beautiful, I wanted to put them to good use......I shall lay bark along the path, once I have dug all the grass up.......

I am still waiting for my trees.....I must say I am getting a little impatient.....the ground is prepared......so I just keep waiting. To be fair, they did say Nov/Dec, which of course is the best time for planting bare root trees........

Hi Lisa.....Poppi had a great time.....she just enjoys being outside.....

I to love the different texture of the leaves.....I wanted the area to be mixed planting and it has worked very well, so far!

Hi Wendy.....I leave the bamboo out......providing it is sheltered, they will be fine. Of course a woodland environment is ideal for them....they have the shelter of the trees......and shade from the sun in the summer.....In the breeze they make the most beautiful music and this adds to the woodland walk.......

How nice to have Poppi to help. I'm sure it makes the work go so much faster, or at least more fun. I loved the photographs. What a lovely place.

Cheryl,

It sounds like a wonderful day...a helper is always a delight in the garden. You've given me the inspiration I needed to put down the mouse and run to the nursery...I want to add to the woodland floor, too.
Thank you!

Dear Cheryl,
Thank you for sharing pictures of your fairy helper, Poppi. She charms me every time I see her. A wonderful garden helper I am very sure. Please give her my regards and a hug!
Your gardens just continue to look fantastic. The woodland walk is lovely. I grow native (to my area) Primroses but they are much different from the charming English Primrose, which are not hardy for me.
I also grow bamboo. The sound of the wind blowing the bamboo is enchanting. It seems to be evergreen for me too. My husband planted a small plug years ago. We harvest for plant stakes and such. I also decorate with the bamboo.
Your photographs continue to be lovely. Your eye comes right through the lens. I think you are teaching your camera to see like you do! You see the beauty.
Thank you.
Sherry
