A year of blogging and Great Grandma.......

I missed my blogaversary.......it was the 5th November......I completely forgot........you must have guessed by now, I am going to continue blogging. The main reason for doing so, is to keep a record for my grandchildren.....I want them to know the real me.......the things I care about. Above are some of my great grandmothers treasures.......as you know she lived to 95 and was an elegant and warm lady. She loved to take afternoon tea, walk in the countryside, and sit amongst the roses in the garden. I have a poetry book that she loved. Many of the poems are simple......but sometimes that says a lot more than complicated writings. The following is written by Bee McMullen and is called Gods Highway.......
Some people pass through this wonderful world,
And never look up at the sky;
It's nothing to them that the larks sing there,
While the great white clouds sail by.

It's nothing to them that millions of stars,
Weave a silver web at night.
They do not know of the hush that falls,
When the dawn gives birth to light.

Oh, pity the people with all your heart
Who never look up at the sky.
So many beautiful sights they miss,
As the pageant of God goes by.

I just wanted to say thank you to all bloggers that visit.....I have made many friendships and have been shown so much kindness........If I stopped blogging I would miss the connection I have with so many.......so I look forward to the next year with you all and wonder what indeed it holds.......I wait with anticipation..........

Hi Cheryl

Happy belated blogiversary!!!

What a great legacy you will be leaving your grandchildren - I'm sure they will appreciate it.

But since your grandmother lived until 95, I reckon you've probably got a good long time ahead of you yet - imagine your grandchildren reading decades of blogs!

Actually, the photos you post are most magnificent and I'm sure they'll want to turn them into a book (or a few) if you haven't already.

Thanks for deciding to keep blogging. I look forward to seeing/reading your posts very much. xx

Hi naturewitch.....if I am as well as my great grandmother was that would be great.....

I am actually going to start to put together a book with photographs, some writing, and I am going to start using my pens again. Calligraphy was a great love of mine, with a busy life, it slipped away from me. I intend to bring it back into my life.I thought a book would be fun......

Hi Ruth.......we are both fortunate to have treasured memories and to remember past generations....I considered myself blessed to have had my Great grandmother for so long.....I was ten when she died......

Hi Shirl....thank you for your warm wishes.........

Well firstly happy bloggiversary to you Cheryl xxx. And secondly, I cannot say how glad I am that you are continuing. I would miss you dreadfully and your wondeful pictures - there aren't enough like you in this world we live in. You have made my day :)) and these pictures are stunning. I could look at the sky forever, especially when it is different shades. I took Kyla outside early one morning recently to show her the pink light - it was amazing, something quite special xxxx

Dear Cheryl,
Blogging does take time! Your posts are always sensitive and full of beauty. I do understand how difficult it is sometimes to get everything in! I too am journaling as part of my legacy.
Your Grandmother's tea things and poem are so beautiful. Your Grandmother must have been a very special woman. Very nice that you honour her by caring for her things and sharing her story. We keep our loved ones alive by telling their story.
Congratulations on one year of blogging. It is a fantastic community we belong to. We are a powerful force too!
You have brought much bee awareness and shown the beauty and joy of organic gardening to the world with your blog. Bugs and blooms and birds and all sorts of charming critters come forth and entertain us and teach us. Thank you.
I am pleased you will still be blogging for I would miss your sanctuary and your beauty.
Namaste,
Sherry

Congrats on your year of blogging Cheryl. I would surely miss you if you disappeared from here. I am sure your Grandmother would love that fact that you are sharing her tea service, poems and memories with us. Those lovely Grands will be happy to read about you in the future and to know what a wonderful woman you are. They will be proud to read how you kept such good care of your piece of the world for them.

You're so right about the sky. It puts on a show most every day. It's cliche, but true: sometimes you've got to look up to enjoy the stars ... or in this case, the clouds.

Dear Cheryl, I am so glad you have decided to continue. When you first mentioned discontinuing your blog, Beckie and I were both upset and discussed how much we hoped you'd change your mind. It would have been like losing a dear friend! Happy blogaversary!

This is such a lovely post. Yes, the poem may be "simple", but it says so much...people are all rushing around these days, missing what's really important. Your blog will indeed be a legacy for your grandchildren, a journal of all that is important to you, Cheryl. I'm sure they will treasure it as you do your great-grandmother's china.

As Rose said, we were so worried we would lose a dear friend if you did quit. i am thrilled you are ocntinuing-and not just for us, but for your grandchildren. So much better than a journal, you have the lovely pictures to go along with it. They will be able to see all you accomplish.

Your grandmother's things are lovely and I know you tresure them. The poem is one that should be read by everyone. It reminds us to slow down and take notice of nature's beauty.

This Thanksgiving, I am thankful to have met you and be able to call you friend! Have a great weekend1

I don’t post comments often (which should really change!) but I do read and enjoy every post of yours. I am so glad you continue blogging. Good idea to have this for the grandchildren. Just remember to save what you have written at a safe place – you never know what happens…

Cheryl, this post is beautiful in photo and word... I would miss your lovely conversation and keeping up with your bees and birds. How would we know what Ratty Rat was up to if you didn't post anymore! Congrats on your blogaversary!

It seems your grandmother had the key to a long life; graciousness, exercise, meditating among the roses and English tea every afternoon! Lessons we can all take to heart.

Have a wonderful day!

Gail

Dear Dawny....It is wonderful that you take Kyla out to look at the sky......you are planting seeds, she will thank you for this one day. In the busy lives that we all lead these days we do not take time just to look at the beauty that is around us.....

I do hope that you are feeling better soon....

Cheryl said...

Dear Sherry.....The world of blogging has introduced me to so many like minded people. It is good to know that I not the only one that cares and that people are willing to listen. As you so rightly say we are indeed a powerful force.

You have inspired me with my photography, and I have much to learn. I sometimes become frustrated but I am slowly getting to grips with things......thank you for all the help that you have given me....

My great grandmother stays with me.....her china, books etc are a pleasure to have. I also have some of her lace and silk handkerchiefs. I can remember her with her hankies......she never used them, they just added to her charm. She always wore black velvet and white lace.....even at the grand old age of 95 she dressed the same.......she was a very healthy woman, she became three days before she left us.....a remarkable woman.......

I hope you have a wonderful day tomorrow...

Cheryl said...

Hi Lisa.....you are so right...apart from my love of all that is around me, I mainly do these things for the grandchildren. I hope they are both learning from me.....and that they will have the rapport with nature that I have. In my bad times it has helped me through the darkness.....

I have some wonderful blogging friends and I would miss them greatly......

Cheryl said...

Hi Marmee and Wendy....tku for your kind words and I always look forward to you both visiting......

Cheryl said...

Dear Rose.....I knew that if I stopped blogging my friends would disappear.....we say we will keep in touch but things happen and we lose touch. After lots of thought I have decided to blog here and there......more perhaps when I have time......

My great grandmothers things are for me priceless.....I remember her using them......when I sit and touch them, I can feel her close.....you cannot buy that....

Thank you dear Rose for being such a good friend, I look forward to the next year......

Cheryl said...

Dear Beckie....thank you so much for your kind words......after lots of thought I could not bear to lose all my true blogging friends.....time is precious, and I have little but I will cut it down a bit, but at least I will be around......

I treasure my great grandmothers pieces........they keep her close to me........its strange sometimes I can feel her when i touch her pieces.......

I to am thankful to have you and Rose as my friends.....you have brightened my life and for that I am truly grateful......

Cheryl said...

Tricia, Lady and Libby....thank you all for your very kind words....it is wonderful to get feedback and know you make a difference......

Cheryl said...

Dear Tina....thank you for leaving a comment this time.....it would be good to hear from you more.....I love feedback.....

All my photographs and writings are safe....but thank you for the reminder......

Cheryl said...

Gail.....you have a wonderful way with words.....tku so much for that.....

Perhaps Gt Grandma did know more than I realised......I do remember that she would never eat more than she needed.....she was a very tiny woman but obviously hardy.....she also had a wonderful calmness about her and a gentle touch.....

Your blog brings me peace. Especially when I need it.

Your Grandma is smiling now, you know.

Congratulations on your year. It's been my pleasure to know you. You see, you have a way of seeing things and telling a story that I understand. You communicate so well...I'm still trying to tell it the way you do when I write.

Oh Cheryl! I am so happy that you are continuing your blog. What a wonderful legacy to leave your grandchildren--and great grandchildren! You will be as vital to your great grandchildren as your great grandmother was to you! It is wonderful to see the love and values being passed down from generation to generation.

I thought the poem you shared was lovely--so perfect. Your g.grandmother's china is beautiful. I have a few treasured things from my g. grandmother too. She left a strong impression on me. When I think back to childhood memories, she was a touchstone for me, as you will be for your great grandchildren.

Cheryl said...

Thank you morning glories......how wonderful that you to have treasure that belonged to your gt grandmother......they are priceless, are they not?
Childhood memories are, of course, even more precious......
