It has been hard work but I'm getting there.......

The milder weather has given me a chance to repair some of the damage caused by the rabbits. I have been netting vulnerable plants, cutting out damage where possible and digging up the plants that are simply not going to make it......
Last Thursday while walking across the garden with some netting, my right foot went down a hole that the rabbits had dug. It has left me with a very painful ankle.........and has meant that I have not been able to get on as quickly as I would have liked.......

but there are a lot of plants in bloom......and a feeling of spring has definately been in the air........

I must say I have not been able to appreciate the flowers.........I also had a chest infection a couple of weeks ago and it has left me feeling rather tired......all in all I have felt a little sorry for myself.......

But it is not all gloom and doom.......the lovely Mr P is taking me away for a mini break.......
We are going to Cornwall next week.......a place that I love.....we used to take our children for holidays when they were little.....lots of memories.....
I hope to visit the EDEN PROJECT and THE LOST GARDENS OF HELIGAN while I am there.....
I shall take my camera with me and hopefully will have much to show you when I come back.......
and now I am going to spend some time visiting your lovely blogs........

Oh Cheryl, I'm so sorry to hear you've been under the weather. Hope all is well with you again soon. You are still managing to take some stunning photographs - these are so lovely. I really do feel that winter is now on it's way out and I can't wait for Spring and to feel the warm sun on my face again - I've been saying this for weeks. Much love to you and yours xxxxxx

Cheryl, I was starting to get worried about you, but I knew you would be working hard to repair damage and doing spring chores. Of course the hole had to be made by rabbits and you had to find it! I hope your ankle is doing better and so is your infection. I've had a bad cold for a week now. :{

Your spring flowers are beautiful, I love the iris. Visiting gardens on your get away sounds so delightful. I hope you have great weather. We are back to cold and have a little snow again. Take care of your self!

Hi Dawny......feeling better than I did but the ankle is still very painful.....I am seeing an osteopathe tomorrow for something else but I will get her to look at the ankle as well.....

I hope that you are right....winter has been a bit too long this year, hasn't it? I think we all need to feel the warmth of the sun......

Hi Beckie.....To be totally honest with you I have felt really under the weather .....even blogging seemed a chore....I knew I needed to sort the garden out before we went away, and it has taken a lot of my energy....but I will bounce back......
I do hope that your cold soon goes, they are a nuisance.....

Hope the sun is soon back Beckie....

Those rabbits really know how to hinder you...
Your winter blooming flowers are beautiful.
Do you know the exact name of that Iris? (It's a Iris reticulata I think?) It is beautiful... I have a very dark one in my garden, it is so dark it's hard to say in these dark days ;-)...
My Irisses and Hamamelis-cultivars are blooming too now, but for Muscari, I still have to wait (I don't know how it's called them in English. In Dutch it is 'blauwe druifjes', blue grapes, or 'druifhyacint', grape hyacint).
I have a Helleborus orientalis, but this plant too isn't blooming yet.

Hi Anne....tku for dropping by....the iris is Katherine Hodgkin...I think I actually prefer the dark blue.....I must remember to get some for next year....

We also call the lovely blue flowers muscari....mine have flowered very early for some reason....they are in a sheltered position on the patio....I think that may be why.....they are very pretty little blooms......

Cheryl said...

Thank you Deena......I had moles a couple of years ago....they did a lot of damage....but when you like wildlife you have to put up with these things.....
what have you tried to deter the moles????

Cheryl, I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well, and then to sprain your ankle on top of that! I hope the trip to Cornwall gives you some much-needed rest and rejuvenation. I'm currently reading a novel set in Cornwall--sounds like a wonderful place to visit!

Seeing all your blooms is so delightful! We are still at least a month, if not two away from much of anything blooming here. Hope those rabbits don't destroy any more of your flowers.

The grandchildren have just left, so I finally have a little time to read blogs...but it's going to be an early night to bed for me:)

So sorry you were feeling sick. And spraining your ankle on top of that. Yuk! Those awful rabbits.
I hope your trip to Cornwall will be healing and soothing.....

Your pics are pretty. I like the iris and the snowdrops really say Spring, don't they?

Have a good holiday.

Hi Rose....Cornwall is beautiful....parts are very wild......
The gardens we will visit are supposed to be amazing...I am really looking forward to that...

Is your spring really so far behind our? It is lovely to see the flowers blooming......I can see nice yellow buds on the daffs now, another few weeks and they will be flowering......

Hope you had a good night.....I bet you did. You are very kind to take care of your grandchildren while parents have a holiday......

Take care Rose.....

Hi Wendy.....Thank you...I am feeling better than I did....

It is so good to see signs of spring.....winter seems to have been forever this year....the terrible weather that summer brought did not help....

Dear Cheryl,
I am so sorry you have a turned ankle. So very painful...One of my ankles is weak from being turned so many times. Those darn rabbits....getting the chest infection is also a bother. It is good you have a osteopathe to help you heal. Perhpas she will give you a poulstice for the ankle. Good that you are going to a healing spa perhaps you will have some feet up time! The gardens you will visit will inspire and sooth your weary spirit...it has been a long winter.
The muscari are my favorite spring bulb. All my beds are edged with them. I am not sure why I love them so but I do! Seeing yours reminds me of how darling they are. Your photographs are excellent. I think the snowdrops are difficult to get just right and you have done just that!
Have a happy, healing, holiday!
Namaste,
Sherry

Spring looks to have sprung in your gardens. It is still cold here.

Hi Cheryl, I'm Darla. I popped by from thingsilove. You have some very pretty blooms. Sorry about your ankle and chest infection. Oh and those silly rabbits!

Cheryl said...

Dear Sherry.....the osteopathe was very helpful....I have stretched the ligaments......she worked on my foot for a long while....it is very uncomfortable at the moment but I hope there will be an improvement in the next few days....they are such bad rabbits!!!

The spa will be good...a little tlc goes a long way....
The gardens will also be healing....Eden is a tropical garden under cover....there are butterflies there, I believe....I shall take my camera and show some of the photographs.....

You are so right snowdrops are hard to photograph...I was not sure about my picture, but thank you for the encouragement...

Have a lovely weekend.....

Hi Darla....tku for dropping by.....it is lovely to see the spring flowers at last.....the rabbits I would rather not see at the moment.....

Oh Cheryl, I have missed coming to your lovely garden so much.... I can hardly blog these days, or even visit my sweet blogging friends any more, as I don't have access during the day any more and when I get home there is so much to do... but I love coming here and I pray that you can feel the love I bring. May God grant you always...A sunbeam to warm you, a moonbeam to charm you, a sheltering Angel so nothing can harm you. Laughter to cheer you. Faithful friends near you. And whenever you pray, Heaven to hear you.” (Irish Blessing)

Hugs

Cielo

Have a peaceful and happy weekend......

Dear Cheryl, I hope that you are feeling your old self again and that the ankle is healing...I find that a few days away from the usual of my life can really perk me up and then there is the garden. When it is warm enough to get our hands in the soil/dirt, oh, the spirits soar. Let's hope that our spirits get soaring soon...I am ready for warm days. gail your flowers are lovely, btw.

Cheryl said...

Dear Gail....thank you for your lovely words...

We have had a warm day.....and guess what....honey bees and bumbles visited....they came for the heather.....How pleased was I........It really did lift my spirits.....it has been a long year of bad weather in the UK, I am hoping this year will be more promising.......

dearest cheryl,

i have been remiss in getting around to my favourite blogs. life doesn't take a holiday and i have been busy since i returned from florida at meems.
i am so sorry for your health issues. i turned my ankle in the fall and been very careful about holes in the yard. we have moles, yuck they cause a lot of damage and leaves mounds of soft dirt. your naughty rabbits just need to behave.
i hope your little get away will be refreshing in every way. i need to get away with my dh.
mr p is good to take you away and let you get well.
i love these photos of your early blooms. i will have to wait another little bit to enjoy blooms here. it is within sight though, and for now i can enjoy yours and others who have lovely flowers coming from their gardens. what are those blooms you have several colours of>?

Cheryl said...

Hi Marmee......there is always a lot to do when we return from holiday.....I loved following your days with Meems.....such fun.....

Moles can be a nuisance....I have had them here....I use the mounds for spreading on my beds, I read in a garden book that the soil is excellent for placing on beds and tubs.....
The moles did little damage although I did lose a tree.....sad....but that is wildlife for you.......

I think you are refering to the Hellebores....I have many of them in the garden, they are one of my favourite winter blooms......

I hope you manage to have a break with your DB....it is good to spend quality time together......
