Sunday safari.......Magpie.......

A handsome bird with boldly pied pumage,
and a long tapered tail,

the magpie is unmistakable.

In sunlight it has an iridescent sheen of blue, purple and green.
One for sorrow, two for joy.......

I've been very lazy today......how about you???

Lovely photos Cheryl!

Not so lazy here, had my parents round for father's day. Then the evening sun enticed me out at around 6pm with a book and had a nice couple of hours before watering the plants and coming in to iron.

Oh I hate sunday evenings! I do wish I had booked tomorrow off.

Love the magpie... I don't think we have them here, which is a shame as I like their white and black contrasts! Also lazy day here, thank you for asking. (James and Fiona are tucked up together in bed and at 4:52 pm I'm getting ready to take my morning shower (was in garden on and off all day)!

I love the magpie photographs. I've never seen one in person. And the doggie looks so sweet. That's the right idea for a sleepy Sunday afternoon.

I've never seen a magpie before; thank you so much for showing these photos, Cheryl! I really enjoyed the photo of the two together--I wonder what conversation they were having:)

A lazy day is good for you! Mine was rather lazy, too, though I just came back from visiting my parents and touring my Dad's pride and joy, his vegetable garden. It puts my little one to shame:) Just wish I'd taken my camera along--I missed a perfect post opportunity.

Such great photos! I would love to see your Magpies. Very pretty birds. Busy here today with the girls. We tour the gardens and of course all had to take pictures of the flowers. It was too wet to do any work though. My budding gardeners will just have to wait til next time to help.

Dear Cheryl,
Happy Solstice!
It is too hot at my house to do anything but lay in the shade just like Nella!
I so enjoy seeing the Magpies.
Pretty birds...Thank you.
Have a sweet week. I will have to work outside in the early mornings now. It is so very hot, 93F (34C) and humid...
I must drink lots of water.
Staying well and happy!
The wheel turns again and the seasons unfold.
Happy Sunday Safari.
Sherry

Hi ncmountainwoman.....Magpie's are fine looking birds....and can be quite noisy.

Nella had been chasing rabbits and was worn out.....

Hi Rose....I understand....the times I have not taken my camera and missed something that would have been good to post....

Perhaps next time?

Lovely photos of the Magpies, ours haven't been so much in evidence this year although they are still around.

Nella had the right idea, she looked so contented. I had a very lazy Sunday but there was so much I should have been doing! I did cook a nice meal last evening though which included the first local Aspapagus of the season, delicious! Other than that a very lazy day indeed.

To answer your question Cheryl, my apples seem to be coming on quite nicely this time, we have had the usual June drop of course but there seem to be more than last year on the tree, it is such a reminder of how quickly the year is passing, it only seems two minutes since we posted together on our blossom! Have a lovely week.

All my life I have heard of the magpie but never seen one in person. They are beautiful birds.

Will be taking it easy for the next week at least. The oppressive heat and humidity saps my energy.

Hi Cheryl,
Just catching up, seem to have been to busy over the last few months but like you I am starting to calm down a bit after all of the hard work.
Like the mixture of wild and garden plants around your pond, it works well. How is Mr P and his scooter?

Cheers Mark

Hi Jan......the magpies have one juvenile with them.....one is enough.....

Our asparagus season has finished now....I enjoyed it while it was here, one of my favourite veggies.
I used to grow it in my last garden and never got to enjoy it. My spaniel always used to beat me to it!!

I have very few apples on the tree....most unusual....
plenty of blossom this year and plenty of bees.....

Have a lovely week......

Hi Mark....I like the pond...there is plenty of life in it....a real time waster....

Mr P loves his scooter and goes for long rides in the countryside....he keeps threatening to take me on the back....in his dreams......

Looks like the dog days of summer there too! The Magpies are quite handsome.

Busy times here at Round Rock. We are in the midst of Vacation Bible School and getting ready for our vacation beginning in July--the countdown has begun with lists everywhere--dog food, cat food, dog and cat sitter food, birdseed, etc.

Cheryl...Your garden safari has brought me another critter I don't know. The magpies are delightful looking...are they mischievous birds?

It was a very lazy Sunday...too hot to do anything!

Love seeing the Magpies Cheryl. I have to go way out west to see them here. I think they are fun to watch. So vocal and obviously handsome.

What a striking bird! We have them in North America but not locally. I have never seen one.
