It is hot here too Cheryl. Riley and Poppi are such angels. It is amazing how children can deal with the heat so well. Did you have a nice holiday? It seems that you were going away for awhile.

Poppi is so fun....
I cannot do the heat anymore. I have to decide on what I will do with my gardens. It seems Spring and Autumn is the only time I can work outside.
I do love the butterflies and bees so I guess I will slowly just keep planting for them.
Stay cool.
Autumn is on the way.
Sherry

I can't imagine you having 90 degree weather> You MUST be miseralble and to be so dry on top of it. Hopefully your fall will be better and you can at least enjoy your gardens then. Take care and stay cool. :)

Hot here, too Cheryl. It was 81 F when I got up at 5:15 for a four mile walk. Looking forward to cooler temperatures ahead, but of course winter will be here soon enough. Enjoy the day. Art

cheryl,

i don't like it when it is so hot you can't really breathe properly. i had to cut the grass today but i waited until it was early evening. (it takes me hours)
i love the expressive faces of riley and poppi, different ones albeit. cooler weather is right around the corner...fall is coming.

Hi Lisa....just days out with family...long hot days but lots and lots of fun.......

Poppi and Riley have their moments but they are good and kind children......I love them both dearly.....

Dear Sherry......it is way too hot for me....I like the typical English summer, sunshine and showers.....if I wanted hot I would move to Spain!!!

Poppi does not seem to worry but little Riley overheats quite easily......and Nella certainly does not like it.....

I have been cutting back some of the hedges now that the birds have finished nesting. One is left wild so I do not have to do that, thank goodness.....

Hooray for autumn!

Hi Beckie.....I think I may melt....I would love to feel the rain on my face as I walk the garden. I have woken to a summer mist today.....but apparently it will warm up later..

Cheryl said...

Thank you Art......gosh high temperatures for a four mile walk.....I can only say I admire you so very much.....

Hi Gail....it seems a shame to want to see the back of summer but this year I must confess to feeling that. It has been too dry in the gardens and I am going to have to rethink a couple of areas....

I am looking forward to cooler days.......

Hi Marmee.....I can imagine tractor mowing for you is huge, and in the heat of the day is just too much. Evening sounds perfect......

Mine only takes an hour and that is long enough.....but there is not much to mow at the moment!!

Indeed, very hot yesterday… I was tempted to have my third shower but realised how late it was (almost 1am) and decided against it as I really needed to go to sleep.

I went out with my friend yesterday evening, and ended up back at my house and he didn’t leave until around 12:30 and I was sweltering in the house… Just couldn’t cope.

It is cooler today and supposed to rain?? Woo hoo, I do hope it waters the garden well! I hope it is cooler for you too, Riley and Poppi are so adorable, and poor Nella looks like she could do with some shade :)

Hi Liz....no rain yet......but there is a breeze and it is quite humid....
Hope you get some rain....I somehow don't think we will see it here......

Taking my Dad to hospital this afternoon to have some stitches out (minor surgery)....

We had some rain around lunchtime for a few minutes, it's all dried up again already.

The sun is now out in full force again so it looks like it will have made no difference yet again.

I hope your dad is ok and recovering well from his operation :)

Unseasonably cool here. We had a brief hot spell and now back to below average temperatures.

The cool feels good but excessive heat just bakes the ambition right out of me. Hope it cools off a bit for you.

Hi Liz....it drizzled here for around two minutes and that was it. Oh well...

They could only take some of Dad's stitches out.....we have to go back again on Tuesday. The round trip took nearly four hours, for a ten minute appointment....crazy!

Hi Marnie....I could not agree more....the hot weather leaves me so unenthusiastic. Cool weather sounds delightful.....perhaps you could blow some this way?

Such lovely photos Cheryl the sheer look of 'joie de vivre' on little Poppi's face is a joy to behold.

It really seems your weather has been much hotter and drier than ours, I would say it was about 25 or 26 degrees here yesterday but with such a stiff breeze that it wasn't bothersome. This morning was wet with a short sharp downpour at one point and this afternoon has been pleasantly warm and sunny. I would be happy if it stayed like this all year, I used to love Autumn but now it is just a reminder of the short, dark Winter days to come which I don't enjoy.
Have a lovely (cool) weekend :)

Hi Jan.....Grandchildren are a delight....they keep us young at heart...

I have not liked the weather this summer....too dry for too long....

Some of my small trees are now leafless....particularly the Rowans....
I think I am losing my Gunnera to. Rather sad as I planted it when I moved here and it has grown to enormous heights....it does not look good at this time.
The wisteria looks poorly to.....it normally covers three arches, this year it has managed one.....
I could go on but I will not bore you. I am hoping the rains will come soon and stay for around a week to give everything a good soaking....

I love the autumn....and I must say I do not mind the winter. Sitting by the fire with Mr P, Nella and a good glass of wine are rather comforting and cosy.
I also love candlelight.....winter here is ideal for that....

Enjoy your garden.......

Hi Cheryl. I hope that you are all well. We aren't getting the same heat up here as you, I'm probably glad to say, as I don't mix very well with hot weather!! I hope it cools down for you soon. Beautiful pictures as always, especially your 2 little treasures. Poor Riley looks hot and bothered and Poppi just looks like nothing is going to get in the way of her having fun!!! Bless their little hearts. Hugs and love to all xxx

What a charming beauty! We've read about your heat wave over here and hope things improve soon.

Extreme weather either way is hard to take. I love summer and warmth, but when it's too hot and humid it's really not nice. I also had read of your heat wave. Phew! I hope it cools down soon. Ah yes, the gentle rain cleansing your face as you work in the garden - bliss! That's more like it!

Your grandchildren are so sweet. Little Poppi is bubbling over with joy! And dear Riley - hopefully, he'll outgrow his discomfort in the heat. It is hard on small children and us (ahem!) grandparents. (how did we get to be grandparents so soon??)
Have a good weekend!

Hi Wendy.....so right....I often ask myself where did the years go?
They fly by....we must make most of each and every moment. I do try to do that....don't always succeed but I always try...

Glad you are enjoying your summer.....

Cheryl the weather here is also sooooo hot, that gardening can only be done very early in the morning or early evening, I can’t wait for the cooler October weather.

Love the photos! It's been a cooler summer than normal here, but I don't like it really, really hot, either. :(
