Sunday safari.

Heavy rain for the last 48 hours has left areas in the garden covered in water....it will drain away slowly.........this is normal for this area.
Strong winds turned oak barrels over, and small branches had fallen from the oak trees. Mr P gave me a helping hand to get the area tidy again..........

Today the sun came out and I must say it was more than welcome.....

Birds waited in the Dogwoods......eager for me to bring out the feeders.
Dunnocks are often mistaken for hedge sparrows. It is in fact a song-bird. It's song resembles that of the wren but lacks the wren's note of aggression.

By chance, a Wren came out of hiding and sat before me. They are busy, energetic, and elusive. As I raised my camera the bird did not fly.......but started to sing.
This tiny little bird singing in full voice is most beautiful. I stood.......just enjoying the moment. I doubt this will happen again. He will go back to the shadows hunting insects and singing amongst the ivy in the garden......
Blue boy (tku Marmee) arrived, he did not seem to like the attention the other birds were getting.
He pecked away at the sunflower seed, happy for me to observe.....
and to take as many photographs as I needed.
Blue boy is a wonderful source of entertainment. He often stops what he is doing, to see what I am doing. So funny...
Happy Sunday safari.........

After a lot of thought I decided to name the Blue Tit, Blue boy. I liked it's simplicity. Tku Marmee.
The runners up were Bella (Rose) and Bertie (Miranda). Tku all for your suggestions and for joining in the fun.....

I have had nothing but rain for over a week. Yesterday there were sun showers. It was still rain, but at least there was some sun as well! I like blue boy!

This safari has been a real pleasure Cheryl, the birds all look so pretty and the little Wren singing its heart out is just a delight. Blue boy looks very comfortable with his new name :)

Beautiful photos throughout.

Hi Mimi.....a week of rain can be too much. Is that normal for this time of year??

Hi Jan....thank you. I was glad to be able to get into the garden today. The rain has been horrendous....I have had several good soakings just trying to get to the garage.....

Hi Cheryl, I love the birdie photo's, Wrens are so lovely and it's always a great pleasure when I see mine- during winter it's often up near the house, last year I left the dead sweet pea up on the fence as it often hunted for caterpillars and such in it. Such a lovely, close view of it right outside the kitchen window.

I think we missed out on a lot of the bad weather here, high winds but not a great deal of rain. It's certainly been an extreme year in terms of weather for you Cheryl!

Oh, Cheryl, I think you made an excellent choice--Blue Boy is just perfect for him! I think the birds must know you and sense a kindred spirit. I can't get within 10 feet of a bird without it flying away; of course, I often have Sophie or one of the cats trailing me:)

So glad the sun has come out--that is a lot of rain! We have had beautiful November weather, but several blogging friends have been affected by the aftermath of a hurricane and have had their gardens flooded, too. This time of year we just have to accept what happens, I guess.

I love it when the birds become accustomed to you and seem to ponder what you are doing. Hurray for sunshine!

We need some of that rain around here; we are in the middle of our dry season. Great pictures of the birds, specially the Blue Boy.

Dear Cheryl,
Such a fun safari today! Late Autumn is full of delights in your garden. I can almost hear the Little Wren singing.
Blue Boy is a charmer. I am smitten....The birds are getting used to your camera! Wonderful photographs.
Rain and cold have come to my neck of the woods...I am staying inside!
Just north and west of me lots of snow forecasted.
Mr. P is excellent help.
Wonderful safari!
Sherry

What little attention wanters you have in your garden! They must know your abliity to capture their beauty. I can't imagine having birds pose for me like that.

Your poor garden does look wet-like a small lake. :) We have had good weather for 2 weeks and the farmers have made progress. A day of reat for them today as it turned nasty cold and rainy.

I love your side bar! Such beautiful photos-so you. :) Hope your week is good and you have more of that delightful sun.

I thought your first pic was of a lake! That's a lot of water! It's a lot of work cleaning up after a storm. Good thing Mr. P was there to help.

What a gift - that dear little wren singing for you! Thank you for sharing this with us. I like the name Blue Boy. Will have to check back. I don't think I saw that post.

Hopefully the sun will stay around for a while.

The blue tit must be very entertaining. Reminds me a bit of our chickadees. Stay dry.

I like the photos of the dunnock singing--too cool! Birds are just so sweet!

Hi Liz...how lovely to have the wren so close. Mine hides in the ivy in the copse and I often hear him. To see him is a treat.

We have had heavy rain again today and the wind is strong. I have a tree moving around a bit too much so am keeping an eye on it. It is a large eucalyptus.....I think Mr P is going to have to get the chain saw out and take the canopy right off. Wrong time of year but rather that than lose the tree....it is a beautiful specimen......

Hi Rose....it has taken the birds a long time to become accustomed to Nella and I. I think patience is the only answer. I still cannot get photographs of the woodpeckers.....

The weather has been awful again today....strong winds and heavy rainfall.......

Cheryl said...

Dear Sherry.....stay warm and snug indoors, sounds perfect to me.

I have so much to do in the garden.....the rain and gales have left a mess behind....if I do not clear it all, I will regret it long term....

The birds are sweet, some are getting used to the lady that lives in the house. The woodpeckers still are not very keen to meet her with her camera. I am learning patience......

Dear Beckie....so pleased to hear from you....I worry when you do not blog for a while....I imagine all sorts of things...

The water is like a mini lake....we have had more rain today and strong winds......winter approaches.....

The birds are delightful.....I enjoy their company....
tku re side bar, I was playing one afternoon when I was bored......I thought I would add some of my new photographs and some different quotes......

We are having our first rain in November today. Loved seeing your birdies. They look gorgeous sitting in your red twig dogwoods(?).

Wow, what great pictures you were able to take! The birds just know you are no danger for them.

Cheryl, I love the little birds that visit here and yours are delightful, too. Blue Boy is one of the prettiest I've seen. He hasn't a shy feather at all! What a lovely gift the sweet song must have been...Have a good week...I've been away from the computer and missed coming by! gail
