Sunday safari

I watch the frog.......
The frog watches the insects feeding on the Eryngium........
The frog misses his prey and lands in the border.  He looks cross.   He made me laugh.   I like the frog.
The cool damp weather is still with us.   There are times when the sun shines,  they seem all to brief.
The plants seem to enjoy the weather.
The lack of insects makes me feel a little sad.   The garden seems empty.    I have missed the bugs this summer.
I sit with the pigeon........he is a loner.    He has been here all summer.

I leave you with the words of Oliver Wendell Holmes

On every stem, on every leaf,......
and at the root of everything that grew,
was a professional specialist in the shape of a grub,
caterpillar, aphid, or other expert,
whose business it was to devour that particular part.

Perhaps next year will be a better year for insects  :)

Happy Sunday safari.........

Hi Cheryl,

I love Frogs and would love to have them (and Newts) in the garden!

Nice to see you have some Sea Holly! You don't normally have much success with them, am I right?
I've a few small plants that I found as tiny seedlings around the garden just waiting to be planted somewhere :)

I hope you have a nice Sunday, and that the weather improves. We've had quite a bit of rain over the past few days; I think I can hear the garden sighing.

Hope you will get some sunshine today - we have it here this morning so am off to make the most of it. I think not having had any long periods of good weather has made us all the more appreciative of any sunshine which comes our way don't you?! Lovely photos as always.

The frog does look a bit disgruntled at his misstep. I am sure they are fun to watch. My garden is very quiet right now. Still no rain. Only about a half inch in the last 6 weeks. I was hopeful that Irene would stir up some rain for us but it is not to be. Sigh~~ We had a big moth at our phlox the other night but I couldn't get my camera going fast enough to capture it. Happy Sunday Safari anyway.

Hi Liz,

I love the pond. It is most certainly one of the best things I added to this garden.

Yes, you are absolutely right. Sea Holly are a mystery to me. This is my first real success and we have had a soggy summer. Doesn't make a lot of sense.
This plant came from the seeds you sent a couple of years ago, so tku.

The sun keeps popping out from behind the clouds. It is very windy and quite chilly. Much better than it has been though.

Indeed it does Jane.
I feel like I slept too long and missed summer this year :)
It is not my most favourite season but I have to say I feel like it just has not been this year. It all feels wrong somehow.

Have a lovely day.

Hi Lisa,

Isn't it always the way, you never have your camera when you need it. Other times I have dragged it out with me and not seen anything of interest!!!

I do hope you get some rain soon.I know how worrying it can be when you have a much loved garden.
I wish I could send some of our rain your way......

I too love frogs. And eryngium! And that cool loves lies bleeding (is that what you call it, too?). Happy Sunday!!

Hi Monica,

I think you gave me the seeds ....and yes we do call it love lies bleeding.
I have at least a dozen in that border, it makes quite a statement.

I hope Mr. Frog finds some tasty insects for his supper:) We've had no shortage of insects this summer, both good and bad. Right now I'm annoyed by houseflies--the result of leaving the doors open too long last weekend while Daughter moved all her stuff into the house. Sophie tries to catch them, so she's constantly jumping around the house:) I'm happy to say, though, that we're finally getting some visits from butterflies--I've been chasing them around the garden with my camera.

Love your eryginium! I wanted to try some in the new arbor bed this spring, but didn't get any planted. Maybe next year.

Dear Cheryl,
Frog is charming...a Prince I am sure!
I am worried for your bugs. Climate change is affecting the trees and all the flora and fauna....the bugs are why I am learning to fall in love with summer.
I thought of you and your beloved while walking at Powell Gardens today. Almost a year has passed since we walked those gardens with you.
Happy Safari,
Always a joy to be with you in your gardens.
Sherry

It's rare that we have a shortage of insects in our hot and humid climate. Some good, some bad but they all have their place.

This is such a beautiful, peaceful blog. I felt like I was stepping into a sanctuary. Thank you for that :)

I love the frog! I once went to a part of Hadirans wall in Cumbria, and beside a beautiful lake found thousands of tiny little frogs no bigger than the tip of my finger. It was a magical experience.

What a cute little froggie! Sorry you've had such a strange year (lack of bugs).
Hope things will warm up soon for you. We've had too much heat and I'm ready for cooler temps.

Love that quote. Oliver WH is one of my favourites.
