Letting nature heal......

You flit, twist and turn like a butterfly.
You drop, rise as a kite on the wind,
dainty, so delicate, and naturally pretty.
How a spiders trap could secure such a jewel.
Fellow petals lean over in jealousy,
keen to join you in flight, on a journey.
I would set you free but then you would be dormant,
not free, to ride on the breeze.

My niece Samantha is Head of Mathematics at a secondary school in London. She is totally dedicated and loves her chosen career. In saying that, her days are full of stress and she works very long hours. She wrote the above piece while sitting in her garden watching a petal caught on a spiders web. For a brief moment she forget the stresses and strain of the day and was at one with nature.........
The photographs are mine.....not exactly what I wanted but near enough.......

Wonderful photos Cheryl, so calm and peaceful, fitting wonderfully with your neice's poem...

I hope you have had plenty of rain today, ours didn't last so long though...

Your pictures go with your nieces poetry just perfectly. I can just see the little feather floating and bobbing in the breeze.

You've nicely captured that spiders web and the petals. Very pretty. I like the white softness. I have not had much success with spider's webs this year.

Your niece should write poetry when she has a few moments - she's really good at it.

Cheryl, as I have said many, many times...you take amazing photos! What a talented family you are. Your Mother's prose and now your niece, your daughter's talent and yours. Amazing!

Hope you are doing well. We are expecting a couple of days of heavy rain then light frost, snow flurries and then a killing frost. Not my idea of a great fall, but at least I can have a warm fire now. :)

Thank you Liz.....

We had hours of heavy rain......I got a good soaking as well as the garden. It is just amazing how the garden is greening up.....if this keeps up I may have grass again!!!

Hi Lisa....thank you....it took a long time to find something that would fit in with my niece's words.....

Hi Wendy.....I have not had many spiders webs so far this year.

My niece is extremely talented. She makes jewellery as well. She often brings earrings with matching necklace as a gift. She is a lovely girl......

Thank you Beckie....you are just too kind....

I don't like the sound of that weather flow......bbrrrrrr.....
too many changes in a short space of time.....

If I was next door I would come and have a cup of hot chocolate with you.......

What a lovely post, Cheryl--your photographs capture the moment so beautifully, and your niece's poem is so vividly described. I understand her feelings of stress so well. I wish I had had more of a garden when I was teaching; it would have been the perfect place for me to find a few moments of calm.

I was going to send you an e-mail, but I'm afraid I may not have time today. I just wanted to let you know that I'm going out of town for a few days, so if I'm not here to visit...that's why. We're having more rain again, and I see Beckie says we're going to have a frost--my garden may be dead when I get back:)

Your niece expresses her thoughts so well. It is wonderful how we can get caught up in the minute details of nature.

Dear Rose....I knew you, more than most, would understand. I thought of you when she sent me the prose....I am glad that she has found an escape....

Safe journey wherever you are heading and hope that you are going for pleasure.

Let's hope that the predicted frost does not arrive....I am sure you do not want to lose your garden so early into autumn.
We had rain all day yesterday and today the sun is shining. My garden is looking a whole lot better......

Dear Cheryl, how you managed to take such beautifully appropriate photos, to match your niece's lovely words, amazes me!

I have a cousin who was a headmistress but suddenly changed direction and is now a vicar and feels she has found her true destiny.

Your niece is obviously a very talented and deep thinking young lady and your photos are just gorgeous.

Cheryl,
What a sweet and thoughtful poem. I especially like the ending, which says, "I would set you free, but then you would be dormant, not free to ride on the breeze." What a lovely thought, and your photography illustrates her words so beautifully.

What a lovely poem and photos! By the way, my niece is also called Samantha (or as her English grandmother says, Samanther, lol!). I very much admire school teachers.
