It is at last raining and has been for the last 36 hours. Whilst the rest of UK has had a very wet summer, our little corner of Kent has had a mini drought. No rain to speak of for around three months. The farmers usually cut the meadow three times in the summer. This year they have only managed once, so they will have to buy in feed to feed their sheep and cows.
I have found it a very difficult year.....my garden is not the damp and lush space that I am used to. Hopefully the rain will stay for a while and the autumn and winter will be wet......

Oooh, Cheryl, I was going to message you earlier saying we have rain here!

So glad you finally have some, it's been very light here and we've had mixed rain/sun with it being very hot in the sun at lunch and everything dried up again - since rained once more.

Hi Liz....we have that lovely sort of rain....soft, gentle but it penetrates the soil.
I worked in the garden while it rained.....pulling weeds, etc and I loved it. I did get wet but it did not really seem to matter.
It is warm here, but the skies are grey.....hooray.......

I am glad you finally got some much needed rain.

We had a terrible drought in 2005 so I know what you mean. It was awful. Since then we have had unusually wet summers. Very odd but we must endure whatever comes our way.

I hope you do have a rainy autumn and that next year the drought does not return.

Hi Marnie.....the weather seems all over the place generally.
We had a really wet summer last year and hardly any sunshine. You are so right when you say 'we must endure what comes our way.' It is not always easy though is it??

Isn't it wonderful to be held inside the house with a much needed rain?! You can just try to relax and enjoy it knowing that your garden is being filled with liquid joy.

Lisa it is, it is....absolute joy......

It's been very warm and muggy today with the rain, and it took me most of the day to realise the pressure was causing my nausea and sickness - most of the morning at work was spent in the toilet trying not to be sick!

I thought I had a migraine... Silly me!

It's amazing how much nature can affect you...

Very strange weather, but definitely welcome. I hear tomorrow is supposed to be lovely again???

I love your rain photos by the way Cheryl, they look so soft and magical :)

Dear Cheryl...I am so glad you have had some much needed rain. Our Summer has been quite different to yours we had long periods of rain but some nice days too.

Any change in the weather, has always affected me quite badly (even as a child) and when I woke up this morning and my chest felt heavy and congested I was not at all surprised to see rain on the window!

Your photos with the raindrops are beautiful and I'm sure your lovely garden will benefit at last. It is surprising how that fine drizzle can penetrate!

Absolutely beautiful photographs of the rain on the flora. I'm so glad your garden is getting a good drink before cold weather.

I absolutely love your pic of the raindrops. They are so beautiful, like little jewels!
We've had quite enough rain for a while, but you can't direct Mother Nature to do our bidding, can we?

I'm glad you are enjoying your wet and gentle garden.

I am so happy for you and your garden~~I know it has been a very dry time in your part of the garden. We have had just the opposite. 16 inches of rain in the last 14 days. It's raining now. Sigh. gail

I'm so happy for you that you finally received some much-needed rain, Cheryl. I know you've mentioned before that it was dry, but I didn't realize until I read your comment just how bad things have been this summer. I remember the year 1988 in particular as being a terrible drought--I've never seen my Dad so glum as the crops shriveled in the fields. The grass stayed brown all that summer. Certainly makes you appreciate the welcome gift of a rainshower.

Your photos are delightful, Cheryl. They make the rain look so inviting. I am hopeful for you and your garden this fall and winter. May the rain continue and bring back your lush green sanctuary.

Enjoy the rain and have a good cup of staeming hot tea. :)

Cheryl, I am so glad you are getting some much needed rain too. We have been getting some wonderfully soft soaking rains. I do feel for the farmers and their livestock. It is so hard when your livelihood is dependent on the weather.

Hi Jan.....I have always believed that sensitive souls are affected by the weather....I know that you are a sensitive.....

Thank you re photographs.....I enjoyed strolling the garden in the drizzle taking them....

You seem to have had the summer we had in 2008.....I have certainly missed the rain......

Hope that you are well.....

Oh! I am so happy for you, dear Cheryl...God-given rain is indeed a blessing :)

I read your post about the wonderful holiday...and it recharges the batteries...but coming home and walking in your wonderful garden is bliss...food for your soul :)

Sometimes, after we've been on holiday, I pass the keys to my hubbie and go adn lose myself in my garden, drinking in its beauty, and it is a sensory experience every time. The washing waits... the camera waits to be downloaded...the unpacking waits...I'm imagining that was similar to your home-coming :)

I will pray for more rain to replenish your thirsty plants. In the meantime, try not to worry too much...just live in the moment and savour everything. Sending you hugs...WG xxx :)

Cheryl,
I love these photos of the flowers with raindrops on them. Yes, there is beauty in rain. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Hi Wendy....you are so right....we have to learn to cope with what Mother Nature sends.
It is raining now....I can hear it pitter patter on the conservatory roof......very soothing.....

Cheryl said...

Gail....oh dear, such a lot of rain. How does your clay soil deal with this.....do you get puddled??

Pat said...

Wow !!!
Awesome pictures...well done.
Glad you're getting rain...shame you couldn't get more this past summer. Go figure...we had a overload in May and June.
Every year things change.

Dear Rose....I speak to my farmer friend Phil, regularly. He looks worn and extremely tired. Without grass, he has no feed. I have seen him on his little tractor with bales of hay, so early in the morning. He has flocks of sheep all over this area.....and is having to feed them on stored hay. A worrying time for him and very long days....

Your Dad must have felt quite ill seeing his crops fade, and what can you do but sit and wait.

As I type I can hear the rain and I am smiling......

Dear Beckie,

Thank you....I enjoyed walking the garden in the rain, taking the photographs.
Poppi and I got soaked today....we planted a tree....a lovely rowan.....she was so proud. We have called it Rowena....Poppi's idea.

Cheryl said...

Marmee....it is delightful to see the garden rise upward. It has drooped for so long and had begun to look quite sad. It is amazing, two days of rain and the whole picture is different.......

Hi Morning Glories

I feel sorry for the farmers. I know most of the locals and they do look worn and tired. Working long hours to keep their livestock fed. I am relieved it is raining for my garden but of course, more relieved for them.

Dear Wildlife Gardener

The first thing I do when returning from vacation is to collect my little dog Nella.....then.......like you I walk the garden, wrapped up in the silence and my own little world. A gardener is a very personal thing....others may admire.....but they will never have the connection you have.

The holiday is full of memories I will treasure all my life.....but I love my home and gardens.......

Cheryl said...

Thank you Brenda....I am grateful for you beautiful comment......

Dear Cheryl,
Lovely, lovely rain...
I also work outside in a warm rain.
I have taken my "shower" in the rain before. I love to gather the rain water to rince my hair...rain is a blessing.
It is raining today at my house and I am thinking of you.
Happy rain day!
Sherry
