Books, biscuits and birches.........

There was a package waiting at the gate when Poppi and I arrived at the house.

"You have a present Nanna, may I open it for you."

"Of course."

A book for me and homemade dog biscuits for Nella. I am always so overwhelmed by the kindness of fellow bloggers. Thank you Dan, I am so very grateful to you. I cannot wait until bedtime when I can have a quick read before sleeping.
Please note the slightly expanded muzzle........Nella took great delight in carrying her precious biscuit around the house, showing everyone en route. She loved her gift and is looking forward to bedtime ....when she will get another biscuit to eat, before sleeping.

Poppi and I put on our gardening clothes and set about planting the rest of the silver birch.

There is not doubt in my mind.......this little lady will be a gardener. She is a natural.

There is no job too messy. We work as a team...the connection between us grows.

Silver birch are not long lived. 70 years and they have reached maturity. Poppi will see them in old age. I do hope her memory will serve her well and she will remember planting them. I took her back to mummy later in the day. As I drove home I found myself smiling....... I had a lovely warm feeling. Treasured moments with a much treasured grandchild........

You are blessed to have her in your life and she to have you as her Grandmother. This time together to teach and share is so valuable. She will remember planting the birch trees and all the precious moments spent with you in the garden.
Your book looks interesting and Nella does look so very pleased.
Dan is a kind soul.

Cheryl, Such joy! Poppi is so fortunate to have you teach her the finer things in dirt, and Nella is just too cute for words, what an expression! I can hardly wait until "the Elliot" is old enough to play with me in the garden. This is what life is all about - thank you for sharing!

Oh, and I'm a huge Temple Grandin fan - if you get HBO where you live, you might want to look out for a special that will air on her in the near future.

My heart just melts when I see that sweet baby girl helping her Grandma in the garden. You are mightly blessed Cheryl.

Nella looks like she is mightly blessed too with that mouth full of biscuit. I think I also see a smile there.

Such a wonderful present Cheryl, and lovely to see you managed to get out and do some planting... I would've loved to be at home today, the sun was warm and perfect for a spot of pottering in the garden.

Poppi is so fortunate to have a wonderful gardening grandma. I was fortunate in this way also and hope to be a good garden granny for my grandkids someday.

Dear Sherry.....time passes so very quickly, it seems only yesterday I held in my arms, a tiny baby starting her journey.
I treasure each and every moment spent with my grandchildren.

It is a lovely gift and Nella loves the biscuits....I fear she has been a little spoilt. I have never made biscuits for her, although I do cook fresh meat for her twice a week.

Hi Amy...tku.
It is a joy to teach the grandchildren about nature and all that is around us. Gardening keeps us in touch with the outside world and I personally believe it has great healing qualities.
Grandchildren are a delight....I never realised just how magical it would be. BUT then I really love being with children, they open up a world, that sometimes as adults, we leave behind too readily......

Liz....pottering today was a joy. It was warm.....I can't seem to remember the last time I felt warm in the garden.

Hi Lisa....believe me, when I say I count my blessings eveyday and my grandchildren are there at the top of the list.

I think Nella was smiling.....

Hi Cindee....the joys of being a grandmother goes beyond words. I just have to think of my two very dear grandchildren and find that I am smiling.....

May you be blessed with grandchildren one day.....

What an adorable photo of Nella! I don't think I've ever seen a full profile shot of her before--you know me and dogs...she is beautiful. And what a dear Dan was to provide some homemade treats just for her.

You and Poppi are kindred spirits, that is for sure. Years and years from now she will look up at these birches and remember the time she spent with you planting them. You are making wonderful memories with her, Cheryl. Time spent with grandchildren is the most precious of all.

Cheryl, time spent with grandchildren is so precious. Some of my fondest memories ar of my Grandmother. I like to think we were kindred spirits as are you and Poppi.

Nella looks so happy! I had to smile at the thought of her showing off her biscuits. Who says animals aren't human! :)

Dear Rose....I am sure that you and I would get on so well regarding our love of dogs. I have a great affection for all dogs, be they pedigree or mixed breed. They have a place in my heart without a doubt. I was so very touched that someone had sent her something. She loved the biscuits......

I love both my grandchildren with a passion and the time spent with them I treasure. Poppi and I without doubt are kindred spirits....she walks in my shoes. I can so often see me in her......sometimes it is quite overwhelming.

Have a lovely weekend Rose.

Hi Beckie....I know you understand the connection between grandparents and their grandchildren. We have to make the most of these times, they are but fleeting.

I am sure Nella would talk if she could......she is such a fun dog.
