Thursdays stroll around the garden.

Mr Practical and I are very tired at the moment due to around twenty rooks gathering on the lawn below our bedroom window.......the noise these birds make is awful. The din starts at 4.00am and continues until 6.00 am. If you chase them away, they are gone for two minutes, then they are back again. This has been going on for ten days now.....so we are both feeling a little bit weary to say the least. Anyway garden....
We have had two days of sunshine, after all the heavy rain, it has been most welcome. Everything has grown like crazy....
I have tried to tidy the neat areas up today....but the grass is still wet, so the mower did not do a perfect job....but it looks better than it did two days ago.
The gate in the distance takes you into the copse.......my favourite area....my little bit of quiet. I have my dogs ashes sprinkled in there, my Lillie, Katie, Ellie and Yezzy. All old girls that I miss very much but I always feel close to them when I sit in that area. I can almost see them frolicking through the meadow grasses. I get a wonderful sense of peace just being there.
My seat, here I drink my tea and think about the many things that fill my life, a time to relax and just enjoy being me.
This boggy area is wonderful, the photo does not to it justice. It is the sort of space you must see, its full of lovely little gems that just seem to pop up out of nowhere.

The cranesbill are still flowering and this one looks lovely in the moonlight.
Gallardia....my little grandson chose this for the garden.....it is just like him bright and sunny.

Love this poppy......it doesn't look real.....quite beautiful.
A lily has opened.....lovely.
Alpine strawberries...and plenty of them thanks to the mason bees.
Rosa canina.....I love wild roses and I have lots in my garden...
Just had to include one bee.......well I know I just can't help myself. Is it carrying something or is it my eyes?

Little greenfinch....these bird shots are so hard. I have given them so many place to hide, I can hear them but can't see them.
Same bird, a little greenfinch.
And lastly a Great Tit looking very tired and a bit tatty. There were three youngsters nearby chirping continuously while she was trying to get some food. She gave up eventually, and they all flew away. So that sums up the garden very briefly..........have fun gardening.

Do not worry , my offer was just an offer. I can enjoy looking at your garden virtually ,over your blog.
I do like your seat though. Is it just recovered wood or specially made for you?

Cheryl said...

Thank you Zvrk for being so understanding. My time is so limited.....
The seat was a gift from my husband. The wood was taken from a dying tree. It was carved in one piece, the back of the seat are the trees huge roots. It is very special to me.

Your garden looks so lovely. Wish I could tour it in person. That bee might have been giving a fairy a lift from one place to another. That chair in your garden is unique. I saw a smaller version of one in a shop the other day and thought of you.

Cheryl, so glad the sun has stayed around for a while. I love your gardens and all your wonderful flowers. I moved one of my crane's bills to more sun-lets hope it helps. Your finches are so pretty. If we have those here(green), I haven't seen them. Hope you have a sunny wonderful weekend.

Cheryl, We don't have rooks here, but we do have crows and starlings, both of which can create quite a ruckus, so I understand your frustration with them. At the same time, who can blame them for wanting to stay in your garden?:) I always enjoy strolling around your garden; so much to see and such a peaceful place.

I thought of you this morning while I was sitting outside: a damselfly landed right in front of me! She was very patient with me while I tried to take some photos, though I don't know how they turned out.

Hi sweet Annie....

All gardens are beautiful and a sanctuary for someone or something....

Hi Rose.....It does not matter what the photograph is like....the little damselfly came to visit you and you appreciated her time...it will I am sure show in the picture.

Oh I understand your frustration at being awakened so early by birds. Last year it was a woodpecker that rat-a-tat-tated on the metal drainspout every morning before sunrise - making such a racket!!
But, I do miss them in the winter. Thanks for the walk around your garden. It looks so peaceful and calm.
What do you have in the "cage" that the birds are hanging on to? I thought it looked like acorns - but can't be - wrong time of year and what purpose would acorns serve?
We are still behind you - our lilies are not even buds yet.

Hi Wendy.....Peanuts are in the feeders.....not just any old peanut, they are from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. Peanuts can carry toxins that are potentially fatal to them. I think it is called afloxin....so I only buy the right brands. They are high in protein and loved by woodpeckers, the tit family, greenfinches and sparrows.
You have to have a cage for them though....they must never be fed whole, otherwise they could cause the young birds to choke.
Gosh I bet you wish you never asked.
Hope all is well with you, and things are still good for hubby.

Your garden is beautiful, so lush and colorful! Your rooks look very much like the ravens that frequent my area. Noisy creatures. Some yards in my town have DOZENS of the noisy birds hanging out. I only get them in pairs.

Cheryl said...

Hi Zhakee.....You are lucky to have a pair only....ours seem to increase in numbers every day.
