Sunday 4 May 2008

Sunny days.

Little Poppi certainly brought the sunshine out, also baby rabbits.
Bees are everywhere. I am so pleased, I have worked hard to increase the numbers here.

An orange tipped butterfly popped in. Magical.

The copse is starting to green up nicely.

This is for Lisa, I know she loves them as much as I do. Lords and Ladies.
The gunnera has had his winter coat removed.
The apple tree seems to look better everyday. March and April were awful months weather wise, but nature seems at the moment to be able to deal with it. I am just happy to feel the warmth on the back of my neck.

Your Jack in the pulpit or as you called it Ladies and Gentleman is great. Thank you for the photo.

The dandelion on the top is great too. Such a clear photo. It almost looks like a mandala.

That butterfly is great too. I have seen a similar one here several times. By here I mean in the States, not my garden. I would flip if one passed through my garden.

Lisa you would not believe how long I have been trying to get a photo of this butterfly. They stay on a plant for about two seconds and their off again. Just by chance this morning I was taking a photo of a bee and there in my vision was the butterfly. Couldn't believe it. So glad it wasn't a blurry photo, I do lots of those!!!!

Lovely photos, Cheryl - especially the butterfly. Glad you were able to get it. I know - I have soooo many fuzzy photos. Keep thinking I will get a new camera one day. But, it's probably the lady holding the camera!
Thanks for your kind words on my blog.
Happy May - do hope the weather brings us all warm sunshine. We had such a warm April (not usual for us) and May is so far turning out to be a disappointment. Oh well - there are still many more days left.

Hi Wendy....Glad you like the photos, I am getting better than when I first started but its fun trying anyway.
The weather is all over the place world wide. Global warming, who really knows, but the weather patterns are definately altering.

Oh thank you for putting that beautiful picture on for me Cheryl - that is an absolute stunning sight - I can only imagine how much more awesome she looks in the flesh. Isn't that the most beautiful blossom. I can truly understand how you feel about her. I often look at old trees and wonder how many secrets they hold and what they have witnessed over the years. We have an old oak tree in our drive and it is really large. I dont know how old it is but it isn't a youngster. The church opposite is 140 years old, so I'm sure that tree must have lots it could tell. The rest of your pictures are also wonderful as always, especially the butterfly. Fantatsic!! Hope you have had a great weekend and a nice bank holiday xxx

Cheryl, I am so glad you have bees. I know you do work very hard to help them-it shows. Finally everything is looking green there. So glad your weather is improving. If it turns again, just bring Poppi back!

Hi Dawny...old trees, old churches...don't you think they always create an atmosphere of their own. A time when things where slower, quieter, more genteel in many ways.
Oaks are beautiful, we have a few here.....they have a timeless feel...part of England...old England. Treasure it.

Hi Hedgewitch...the orange tipped butterfly uses the wild flower ladies smock as a host plant. I grow these in the garden hence the visit. They are so pretty, but very difficult to capture.
Beth Chatto's gardens are stunning. I have only seen them on the television.
Gunnera are monsters I have the one, and planted it for the frogs, toads, and grass snakes to shelter under when the weather is too hot for them.
It is a nightmare getting it through the winter as we have a frost pocket here. Surprising what a bag of hay can do and a double fleece!

Hi Beckie....It has been worth all the hard work to have a garden full of bees. You cannot imagine the joy it gives me.
We have a warm week coming up, so hopefully it has turned around!!!

Hello Aiyana....Baby rabbits are cute but they eat a lot of my plants. Not that I would do anything about it, live and let live.

Cheryl, It looks like your Sunday was as perfect a spring day as was ours.
I've never seen a butterfly like this one, and it's perfectly posed in those dainty blue flowers. You couldn't have taken a better picture if you had been standing there for an hour trying to capture him.

Cheryl said...

A lovely spring day Rose. I was lucky to capture it the way I did. You've got to get lucky sometime, havn't you?

It is so true about old trees and churches Cheryl. Every night before I go to sleep I always look out of our bedroom window and the old church is just across the road - the branches of the oak almost frame the view. The wall around the church is very low and made of stone and at that time of night it all looks like it belongs to a different time. I say to Richard that that particular view will not have changed much for over a century. It is quite atmospheric when it is raining for some reason. I hope this makes sense as I am not describing it that well. I have tried to photogragh it but have never taken one that quite captures it correctly. Hope you had a great weekend xx

Hi Dawny....like me with my old tree you will never get the perfect picture of the church and oak. I believe that we feel so much in our hearts that you can never get that in a photograph. Feelings have so much to do with it. Thats what makes these things perfect for us, and would we really want to share that?
Had a great weekend, hope you did to.

It's amazing what a little sunshine and the magic words of a cute little Faery princess can do, isn't it? How wonderful that there are so many bees out and about in your garden. All your work has not been in vain. Enjoy the sunshine!

Dear Cheryl,
It is such a joy seeing your yellow tipped butterfly. Beautiful!
I will go back and look again. Planting it's host plant is very wise of you. The butterflies depend on us!
Such a beautiful post....
