Sunny Sunday.

It has been a lovely Sunday, the sun shining, and family popping in and out. I brought the parents around today, they enjoy the garden. Daughter and family called in for coffee and cakes. When they had left my lovely son called in and spent some time eating and chatting. When everyone had left gardening commenced. There is so much to do here at this time of year so I will not be blogging so frequently but I will be visiting you. The grass above is ribbon grass, it gets a lovely pink tinge as the season progresses......I adore grasses and so do the birds.
One of my many beautiful acers. You cannot beat these little trees for colour.

Valerian and Elder against a blue sky.....I love it.

Rosa Rugosa. I have planted this amongst hedging. It is dripping in buds waiting to burst. One is out already. I love the smell of this rose, and many insects are drawn to it.

Evening sunshine brings shadows to the garden and adds a softness to the scene.

This is my woodland walk. In a few years from now when the trees mature this will be a special area of the garden. Isn't it wonderful to stand back and think I did this, just me and me alone.

This is an island bed, one of three. It is planted with cardoon, lupins, day lillies, oriental poppies and much much more. It looks lovely in full flower, all the supports etc will be hidden by then.

This area has been planted over the last few years. It is full of trees and flowering shrubs. The underplanting consists mainly of daffodils and wild flowers. There is nothing formal about my garden. I live in open countryside and have tried to fit my garden in,with what surrounds me. It is wild, but it takes a lot of hard work and effort to keep it that way. I maintain this garden myself, without any help. All planting, digging, pruning etc etc is done by me. I am really proud of what I have achieved here, it was a sad garden when I came. It is now full of life, flowers, dozens of trees but most of all it has a quietness, a calming effect, and I know deep down that my soul is here. I am a very contented lady.

Hi Cheryl,
You have a beautiful garden, so lush and verdant. I've always appreciated gardens like yours, as I grew up in the desert Southwest. The desert has its own beauty, but it is hot and dry; therefore, somewhat barren. Gardens like yours seem so cool and inviting!

Thanks for sharing a special part of yourself. I can see you all throughout your lively & lovely, well cared-for garden.
I especially like your woodland walk. Did you make those whimsical toadstools or buy them?
I have a little hobbit garden that I'll post on my blog. The pic was taken last year, as I haven't got it up as yet. We really are behind here in eastern Canada. Our liliacs are still not blooming yet!

Sounds like you had a Mother's Day quite like mine. Children calling in the morning (well, mine called on the phone - will get together later on), and I spent a glorious afternoon in my garden. How lucky we are!

Cheryl, you have every reason to be proud of your gardens! They are lovely and one can tell they are done with a true love of nature. Your heart is as big as all outdoors and your plants and animals love you right back. Glad you had a good day with family!

Hi Aiyana....yes the garden is cool, and has lots of beautiful areas that are full of ferns, they growso well here.
I love to look at your beautiful flowers, I suppose its the complete contrast between us, each appreciating what the other has.

I would so love to see the hobbit garden Wendy. I will look forward to that.
We celebrated Mothers Day in March. It was just a good family day and the sun completed the picture.

Beckie, thank you for your lovely words...I feel as though you and I know where the others heart lies. We have learnt a lot about each other as our bloging relationship developes.

Cheryl, What lovely gardens! Thank you for showing us around. I am amazed at all you have accomplished; you have every right to be proud of all you have achieved. Your gardens look so peaceful and serene, the perfect place for quiet contemplation.
Glad you had a good Mother's Day.

Thank you Rose.....I love looking at other peoples gardens, so thought I would try to give some idea of what mine is like. I will post more further down the line. I hope you had a wonderful Mothers Day.....we celebrated in March. My day was just a lovely family day, all unexpected but more enjoyable for it.

Hi Cheryl,
I have a little acer too and am nuts about her! She is so graceful. I planted her by my koi pond, how perfect!

Your garden does look like Bliss as NatureGirl said!

Acers I agree Beckie are perfect by a beautiful pond. Mine is in a wooded area to give it some protection from the Easterly winds we sometimes get in Spring. There autumn colours are stunning.

It gives us great satisfaction to say I did that, and even more to say I did all of that and more!!
