At least its dry.

It is still cold at the moment but at least it is dry. The water table has dropped and it gave me a chance to cut the grass. I don't do absolutely neat and tidy in my garden. To encourage wildlife you need areas of long grass and wild flowers. The grass is full of them, when they are out in late spring I will show you. The areas around the trees I let the grass grow long to shelter frogs, grass snakes or anything else that might seek refuge. I have kept the feeders well stocked this week, and the birds are using them all the time. There is not much insect life around due to this cold snap, so I will help them all I can.

One dove seemed to find a nice cosy spot. I have been keeping the log fire burning, so the chimney must have been nice and warm!!

Hi Hedgewitch....The house is really old and although we have insulated it as much as we can, it is still full of draughts. Also we are on an exposed site, so when it is windy we feel it indoors. So log fires are a must to keep the house warm. I love them, they can be quite hynotic but they are hard work.
You reckon its spring eh????

Cheryl, We're in for a colder spell here, too; I hope none of my perennials freeze this weekend.
What is the lovely flower in your header?
I somehow missed your post yesterday; what a plump robin! He must have enjoyed all those weevils you left for him

Hi Rose...I do hope you miss the bad weather. It is so devastating when things are growing and then the cold weather comes back and causes huge problems.

The flower on my header is an auricula. I keep them in the greenhouse so that the flowers don't get damaged. I think they are exquisite.
Robin was very happy.

The dove does seem to be enjoying the chimney's heat! Good idea about leaving areas for wild life. Maybe spring will take hold and stay for you soon.

The dove has a lot of sense.
Yes I hope spring comes soon and stays Beckie.

Hi Cheryl - you look like you've got a stunning garden - it's amazing the difference being able to cut the grass makes - well some of it anyway! We've still managed to hold onto the nice but v. cold weather here at the moment - so sorry that you ended up with damaged plants with the cold - we've had two hard frosts the last 2 nights but I must admit I've not noticed too much damage which is amazing seeing as the Aqualegias have just started to come through - not to mention many other things too.... love your blog - always full of interest and inspiration...
